World Heritage in Japan 19
Sites of Japan’s Meiji Industrial Revolution: Iron and Steel, Shipbuilding and Coal Mining
Sites of Japan’s Meiji Industrial Revolution(Culture, registered in 2015)
The sites consist of 23 heritages in 8 prefectures (Yamaguchi, Kagoshima,
Shizuoka, Iwate, Saga, Nagasaki, Kumamoto and Fukuoka). This group of sites
were registered as world cultural heritage in 2015 because it has universal
value to show the process of modern industrialization.
Japan mixed imported Western technology and traditional Japanese culture
from 1850's to 1910 to industrialize the country led by the government.
