Sites of Japan’s Meiji Industrial Revolution: Iron and Steel, Shipbuilding and Coal Mining



Sites of Japan’s Meiji Industrial Revolution(Culture, registered in 2015)
The sites consist of 23 heritages in 8 prefectures (Yamaguchi, Kagoshima, Shizuoka, Iwate, Saga, Nagasaki, Kumamoto and Fukuoka). This group of sites were registered as world cultural heritage in 2015 because it has universal value to show the process of modern industrialization.
Japan mixed imported Western technology and traditional Japanese culture from 1850's to 1910 to industrialize the country led by the government. These are mainly iron and steel, shipbuilding and coal mining.
It was the first time for Japan to include the operational heritages.

Following are the all 23 heritages.
